Great fun and assistance at Studebaker Theater with AMPERS&ONE

I was a little trepidacious when I saw during the ticket purchase process* that the AMPERS&ONE concert at the Studebaker Theater in Chicago offered only general admission. Fortunately, all the Fine Arts Building (FAB) staff with whom I had contact, via email and in-person, were friendly, efficient, and very helpful. The box office response to my inquiry was that, while the concert has general admission, if I let them know the event name, they would note my ticket purchase and provide accommodations.

[*It turned out that this concert was not managed by the FAB box office, so it worked differently, but find out how the staff reacted to my need for assistance…]

Being my first time at the FAB, I didn’t realize the theater is such a nice, small size, reminding me of the number of seats (minus the balcony) that my high school auditorium accommodated. The best part is that, even though I was almost late (I’ll tell you about that later**), I simply asked an usher where to go, and she directed me to a seat saved for accommodations, on the inside aisle, only seven rows from the stage. She even parked my walker for me (I can walk short distances, though painful).

Let me tell you, and many thanks to AMPERS&ONE members and stage directors, THAT SEAT WAS AWESOME, because several of the guys came and danced in the aisle right next to me! As usual, everyone who could, stood, the entire time, so I had to lean into the aisle a bit (the woman in front of me was wearing platform shoes; good strategy for her). And, there were no screens to help see more closely, but I was okay with that since it’s a small venue; I saw a lot more than I’ve seen at other concerts.

It was also easy to park near the FAB venue… and right across the street. Be aware that the parking entrance is in the middle of two directions of traffic (that confused me at first), and be careful following other KPOP fans who look like they know where they are going, ha-ha! I gave them a freebie in the elevator then happily but thoughtlessly followed them until we went a looong way off course; I just barely made it to the theater in time, thanks to my bestie, who cat-sat Mi-Mi while I attended the concert. Later, he picked me up around the corner, near a hotel parking concierge area; there is a bus stop and busy traffic in front of the theater. Be sure to take a phone bank/battery in case you need to contact a driver or friend after using up power on videos.

**It was a comedy show gem, seeing us crazily zooming down the sidewalk, me steering Mi-Mi’s stroller with Jeffrey behind, pushing me, while I occasionally screamed unnecessary warnings. I should have trusted my meticulous event planning, but the mishap in no way diminished this incredibly fun evening. See my video short on YouTube. 🧋TE
